Russell Means passed away yesterday. I haven’t had the right words to express my sadness. My connection to the history and culture of the natives of North, Central, and South America is not something most people know about. It is not personal in that I don’t have any biological connection to these people groups, other than the land bridge that used to exist in the Bering Strait which probably connected the ancient peoples of Asia to North America. But I rarely speak of a very special time in which I developed a deep love for the Navajo people in New Mexico. Maybe I will write more about this later. I’m just sad about this news, and I will probably pay tribute to a great man by at least watching him be a badass in his first feature film, Last of the Mohicans.
